Humane - marked by compassion, sympathy, or consideration for humans or animals

-Miriam-Webster

Gracious - marked by kindness and courtesy

-Miriam-Webster

As you can see, "humane" is synonymous with the word "gracious". Another word that defines compassion and kindness would be "charity" which means "generosity and helpfulness especially toward the needy or suffering."The word "Charity" comes from the Greek "Charis" which means "Grace, favor, kindness."

Grace is unmerited favor. Favor can be a benevolent act, like if one does you a "favor."

We may not be able to agree on who created humans or where we come from. But one thing that is absolute is that none of us asked to be here or had anything to do with our conception. We were the result of our parents’ biology fusing after a sexual encounter. Our mother's body nourished, incubated, and birthed us. This was an act of graciousness. Grace was given just in our existence. Every day you exist declares grace exists toward and in you.

We, humans are not perfect, and we do things that for sure can be judged as horrible like the Jewish Holocaust or Atlantic Slave Trade of African people. These things were horrific and will always be viewed that way because it was not humane… it was inhumane treatment of humans.

Humans don't always agree, but when we do, we can establish graceful things like ending the Holocaust and abolishing the Atlantic Slave Trade. In the midst of humans being cruel, humanity will always become more graceful.

This gives hope for when horrible times come. They will continue to happen in the now and in the future as it has in the past. The past reveals to us that we humans continue to grow in grace. We consistently grow at becoming better humans. When some humans become inhumane or graceless, it will always result in more humans becoming humane and graceful.

For example, we once could not read or write, but humans created writing and reading systems that helped us work together better. Some inhumane people dominated over those that couldn't read and write. Reading and writing empowered people to be able to successfully rise up and change their reality to no longer be dominated. The Renaissance, Age of Enlightenment, and American Slave Rebellion are some examples.

Another example is technology. Most people have computers in their pocket called smart phones which make life much easier but also difficult. Difficulty in the sense that studies show that humans communicate face-to-face less than they did in the past due to smartphone usage resulting in a rise in loneliness, social awkwardness and lack of empathy. However, this technology has also been used to spark political awareness faster, social change and even has helped more people become self-employed and entrepreneurs. All of this and more are stored in digital libraries called clouds to store and pass down knowledge to the next generation. Such forward thinking is an act of graciousness.

We can learn from our mistakes and become less ignorant. The horrors that happen will always push us to become better at being humane. So don't be blinded by or pushed into depression concerning our future when you see humanity acting horrific. You seeing it could mean your opportunity to be intentionally favorable and humane as you see fit, Your Graciousness.
